WARSAW (Thomson Financial) – Poland’s economy grew 6 percent in the first quarter and remains on track for a 5.5 percent expansion for the whole of 2008, economy ministry analysts said in a quarterly report published on Monday.
The state statistics office is expected to publish its first official estimate on gross domestic product in the first quarter at the end of this month.“Decisive for the scale of growth was a rise in internal demand, through a rise in private consumption by 4.5 percent and the realization of company investments,” the ministry’s report said.
“A higher pace of growth of nominal income and strong rise in demand for consumer credit led to the higher pace of growth of private consumption than a year earlier.”
